7 facts you probably don't know about the Black Widow movie 2021

1. Scarlet is Black Widow!
Scarlet Johansson has now played Black Widow / Natasha Romanoff 9 times (or 10 if you include her portrayal of the alternate version of Natasha in Avengers Endgame). She first appeared as Natasha Romanoff in Iron man 2 (2010) although she was never referred to as Black Widow in this movie.
2. The Universe is growing!
Black Widow is the 24th film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and the first to be released in its Phase 4). Black Widow is the first of these to be focussed on a female character.

3. One for the girls!
The movie is a win for the girls - and for Australians. Not only is the movie all about a female superhero but the movie is directed by an Australian female director, Cate Shortland. Watch out for another mighty female character who is carving out a place in the DC Universe, Yelena Bolova (played by Florence Pugh).
4. Step back in time!
The timeline for the movie may be confusing (particularly for those who have seen Avengers: Endgame who may not have expected to see this character again). Black Widow is a prequel to Infinity War and Endgame and is set in the time after Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War. Whilst it doesn’t tell you about her origins, the film will inform you about a lot of matters you did not know beforehand about Black Widow’s life before she joined the Avengers.
5. Check out her outfits!
Get set to see Black Widow wear a new costume or two. Her main costume reflects the timing of the movie by uniting elements of the costume worn by Black Widow in Captain America: Civil War and her costume in Infinity War. It is mostly black (like Civil War) but has grey details (like the chest piece in Infinity War). The suit is armoured in the knees and legs but retains the Black Widow outline with details on her belt and wrist cuffs.

Black Widow also has a white costume this time around. This white costume can be traced back to the Marvel Comics, where Black Widow wore it so she would blend into the landscape, at a time when she was travelling through frozen lands. In this latest movie the white costume also helps Black Widow blend into the background when she encounters snow, during the extremely cold weather of eastern Europe (which is where much of the film is set).
6. Classic touches!
Black Widow has yellow wrist-mounted tasers which invoke the memories of the colours of the classic Black Widow costume (which was all-black with yellow bracelets).
7. Much more than a fighter!
You are probably already aware of Black Widow’s main powers as a master fighter with enormous agility and deadly weapons. In this latest movie however you will get to see two of her greatest strengths which she has developed over the movie series: her compassion and her vulnerability. Scarlett Johansson has talked about the development of these aspects of Black Widow’s character, and the parallels with her own growth as a woman and a mother - See
